Despite the 3CCD image sensor and 5 megapixel still images, the GZ-MC500 is more suited to the casual moviemaker than the serious video enthusiast.

Styling, quality 3CCD imaging sensor

Handling, 4GB hard drive on the small side, no AVI video format option

JVC Everio GZ-MC500

An extremely compact, nicely designed three-chip camera that records decent MPEG-2 video and stills.

Decent blend of video and still capabilities ; Generally sensible controls ; Easy searching and downloading ; Tiny size

Mediocre battery life, viewfinder, and low-light performance ; Automatic features a bit sluggish ; Limited manual controls ; No microphone jack

Due to its high pixel count, the GZ-MC500 produces wide-screen video that is every bit as sharp as its 4:3 video. Unfortunately, this high pixel count also results in inferior low-light performance. To get a reasonably bright image under less than...

JVC Everio GZ-MC500

I'm fortunate to have purchased this in 2008 for a bargain basement $350. I can therefore also get cheap batteries and memory cards for this camera.

The camera is compact and has decent stills and video performance. Editing was pretty easy too

Sometimes strange electronic noises on recording. Average low light performance

small

Extremely expensive for 4Gb (was told that you could purchase higher GB RHD, cannot ; Battery life is less than minimal ; slow lag time ; Not compatable with any of the JVC disk burning dowloaders

JVC Everio GZ-MC500

After owning this camera for a while, the PAL version is good for me as I am a semi professional filmmaker in my freetime. My old camera had too much visible interlacing but this one does not as it is higher quality.

Decent VIDEO quality ; Compact ; Pretty good digital stabilization ; Digital

Poor battery life ; Low battery capacity ; Poor bundled software ; No microphone jack ; Poor workflow when editing on a PC with professional software ; Poor quality at night
