JVC Everio GZ-HD6

Solid video performance in optimum lighting, records in 'full' 1080p HD, 120GB hard drive, large range of manual controls, excellent optical image stabiliser

Results were below average in dim lighting, lacks many of the features found on its chief rival

The Everio GZ-HD6 is a solid HDD camcorder that can match most high-def cameras when it comes to picture quality. Unfortunately, it lacks many of the features found on Sony's 120GB offering, which happens to retail for exactly the same price.

JVC Everio GZ-HD6

In isolation the HD6 is a good camera, however, on almost every turn it is outpointed by its Sony counterpart, the HDR-SR12.

Decent quality HD video ; Pleasant, if blocky, aesthetics ; Full-size HDMI port

No electronic viewfinder ; MPEG2 TS file format not widely supported ; Poor quality stills ; Slow menu system

Conclusion In isolation the HD6, as well as its cheaper sibling, the HD5, are good cameras. However, on almost every turn they are outpointed by its Sony counterparts, the SR12 and SR11, respectively.

JVC Everio GZ-HD6

Dear Ed. Sorry cannot agree. My HD6 intuitive to use; neat compact. Mine has had lots of use - no grubby finger marks on mine. Does Ed. wash his hands? Performance: Beautiful colour, stability (even if hand held). Advise Ed. should use a tripod as...

Light, easy to use, Suberb playback quality

Can't use it whilst battery recharging

JVC Everio GZ-HD6

I had never heard of "Fujinon" untill the sales guy told me about the company, and pointed out that their cheapest lens is about 7 grand! It's good to see JVC having great optics on this, as that is important. The 3CCD chips pick up great colour, and...

Great colours ; Great stabiliser ; Easy to use

certainly need an extra battery, High Def takes up a lot of juice

The best OIS I've seen on a camcorder of this price point.

Great Picture quality and colours. Details are sharp ; 120GB capacity ; Great OIS ; 3 CCD ; Well known pro lens "Fujinon

MPEG 2 recordings take up more HDD space ; Only 2 MP stills

JVC Everio GZ-HD6

I agree with squinter. I did the same thing and the results were better on the JVC GZ-HD6. I tried this under various lighting conditions with their out of the box settings.

Excellent Image quality & realistic colours thanks to the 3 CCD's ; Really good OIS ; Blu Ray software provided

No viewfinder

JVC Everio GZ-HD6

Editor must be joking. I bought this after using both the Sony and the JVC side by side in the store... there is no comparison. Also the stabiliser is the best going around.

Seeing is believing vs other products. My advice is look for yourself before buying.. you'll see what I mean

MPEG2 really chews up the hard drive quickly.. but would rather have this than low quality
