DJI Spark

DJI Spark review: DJI's gesture-controlled drone is incredibly fun to fly with lots of automated modes that make it a great first advanced drone.

Small, lightweight build ; Intelligent flight modes ; Easy to fly ; Good image quality

Expensive in the UK ; Gesture mode is a little unreliable ; Battery life is short and extras are pricey

An incredibly fun advanced drone with some seriously clever modes for dramatic footage

Flying a DJI Spark by waving your hand isn't as great as it sounds

You can fly DJI's Spark by moving your hand, but that doesn't mean you should.

DJI Spark review

Tons of intelligent flight modes ; Obstacle avoidance ; Two-axis gimbal stabilization ; Ultracompact form factor ; Excellent flight performance

No 4K camera ; Average flight time

The Spark is easily one of the best portable drones available right now. Despite the fact that it can’t shoot 4K video like some of its competitors, it outshines the competition in just about every other regard. It’s faster, smarter, can fly for longer...

The best drone you can buy right now

The right pick for pros, beginners, or adrenaline junkies.

Detachable gimbal doubles as handheld stabilizer ; Comes with shoulder harness for mounting camera on your body ; Well priced if you already own a GoPro camera

Limited range ; Can’t autonomously track subjects ; Can’t sense and avoid obstacles

The right pick for pros, beginners, or adrenaline junkies

DJI Spark review

You know how Apple sometimes seems to be behind its competition in performance, design or features, only to eventually leapfrog them and take the lead? That's what DJI did with the Spark.

The DJI Spark delivers a tiny, lightweight design; excellent mechanically stabilized camera; USB charging and advanced features like gesture controls and obstacle detection. It travels well and is great for aerial photos and video.

Flight time can be as short as 10 to 14 minutes. The app can be frustrating to use, especially on smaller screens. And you should expect to buy batteries and possibly the optional controller.

The DJI Spark delivers all of the camera drone features most people will ever need in an impossibly small package.

DJI Spark review: a little bit of magic in the palm of your hand

By learning to compromise, DJI has delivered its most accessible drone yet

Small and lightweight ; Great gesture control ; Lots of powerful autonomous features

Limited battery life and range ; Spotty connectivity over Wi-Fi

The ideal drone depends on what you’re after, and I would describe the Spark as the best starter drone on the market right now. It’s easy to carry around, simple to control, and safe to fly indoors and out, while retaining just enough oomph to capture...

DJI Spark

The DJI Spark is a $500 palm-size gesture-controlled selfie drone for the masses, but it's hampered by short flying time and an app that could be easier to use.

Small. Supports gesture controls. Smartphone-controlled flight. Automated shots. Subject tracking. Forward obstacle avoidance. GPS stabilization. Safety features, including return-to-home.

Battery nets about 12 minutes of flight time. Limited range and speed when controlling with phone. Video limited to 1080p. No support for 24fps or high frame rate capture. App and video editing features could be easier to use. Dedicated remote control...

The DJI Spark delivers one of the best technological parlor tricks I've ever seen. Launching out of your hand and controlling a drone with a wave of your hand is a lot of fun. But when you dive deeper, some issues become apparent. The Spark is meant to...

DJI Spark review: The tiny drone that makes you feel like a Jedi

The simple fact is that the Spark really has no competition right now. There's nothing equipped with the same number of high-end features as the DJI

Almost impossibly small ; Lots of smart sensor technology

Limited battery life stops it from being serious film drone ; Gestures aren't reliable yet

There are plenty of small drones out there, but almost all of them are essentially toys and couldn't be considered as portable, high-end flying cameras. The Spark, on the other hand, could be. Not to Hollywood movie levels, but it's still highly...

DJI Spark review

Didn't think you wanted a drone? You do now...

Excellent auto-flying modes ; Incredibly small and light ; Crisp and colourful HD video ; Manual options for levelling up

Battery life means you need spares ; Noisy at low altitude ; Expensive, particularly in the UK

A perfect beginner's drone, the Spark has flown down from gadget heaven

DJI Spark review

A mini drone your parents can fly

Controller-free gesture controls ; Absolutely tiny ; Automatic Quickshot modes

Spotty Wi-Fi connection with smartphones ; Short flight time ; Easily swayed by the wind

No larger or heavier than a can of soda, the DJI Spark is the portable drone you’ve been waiting for. Its automatic flight capabilities and ability to recognize hand gestures outshine its few problems.
