Garmin Forerunner 610 GPS watch

Garmin Forerunner 610 review: A GPS watch aimed at the fitness junkie

Looks like a normal watch, albeit a bulky one ; Huge range of workout features integrated ; GPS works accurately and stores plenty of data

Battery life is limited to eight hours of exercise ; Not waterproof (so no swimming) ; Touchscreen isn't great

Garmin's Forerunner 610 is pricy but if you're a serious athlete we can definitely see its value. It's able to track and store a huge range of workout metrics in combination with the bundled heart-rate monitor, and includes software to monitor your...

Garmin Forerunner 610 Runs Fast But Touched Me In A Bad Place

Getting into shape is hard! A good gadget can distract you from the drudgery of exercise. Like the Forerunner 610, a shiny and impressive watch to mak...

Didn't last

For what it costs, I'd expect it to last longer than 17 months. I also have a 410 which does almost the same job for a fraction of the cost

Good if it worked longer than 15 months. Terrible service.

Touch screen stopped working after 15 months. Phoned Garmin Australia, which puts you through to a call centre in the Phillipines. Repeatedly told to do master reset and callibrate touchscreen (you can't calibrate a touchscreen that doesn't work)....

Fantastic when working

Only lasted 15 months. Could not repair. Could not replace. Have to deal with worst customer service ever.

Good watch, terrible service

My watch worked extremely well for around 9 months, then started reporting erratic heart rates. After trying everything in the manual, reading online reviews showed that this is quite common and is a fault in the heart rate strap. I submitted a support...

When it works, a great heart rate monitor

horrible warranty service, poor reliability, replacement unit made from cheap plastic

Garmin reliabiliy

I bought this watch about 12 months ago from wiggle.co.uk. I already owned a Garmin Edge 500 for cycling and was Impressed with that gadget. I purchased the foot cadence sensor with that and share the HR monitor belt with my Edge 500. Overall, it is a...

Comfy to wear. Simple to use. Reliable

Could do with more battery power. And charging firmware is weird!

Training with the Garmin Forerunner 610 - Special Edition

For Christmas I got a Garmin 610 special edition (it's white and blue, with a blue plastic back). These aren't available in Australia and this one was ordered from overseas using a US postal forwarding service (since neither Garmin nor their US sellers...

GPS accuracy. Custom fields on display. Quick satellite lock on. Vibration alert much better than just sound!

Touch screen is fiddly to set up.

Not worth the premium over 410

If I had my time again, I would purchase the 410 (however you don't get virtual racer). The touch screen is buggy. It requires recharging like a mobile phone. The GPS system is what you really buy this for. If you are happy to use your phone (and run...

Virtual Racer - I like to run against my previous best. Without stating the obvious, the GPS system. Especially good if you upload to computer using Garmin website or Strava and compare previous runs or even friends.

Battery recharge - it's naive to think that a GPS unit would solely rely on a small lithium battery normally used for normal watches. But it is annoying if you forget to recharge after a run as you won't be able to use next time. The touch screen is...
