The latest MacBook looks identical to the old model but benefits from faster components. As a result, it's even better value for money.
Design ; Price ; Keyboard
Heavier than laptops of a similar size
Conclusion The MacBook is now a more attractive proposition than ever. It's faster, better-equipped and therefore better value than its predecessor. It's not as light as equivalent PC-based laptops such as the Dell XPS M1330, but if you're a stickler...

The new MacBook, updated to Intel's Core 2 Duo CPU, compares very favourably with Apple's high-end MacBook Pro line, offering premium performance at a reasonable price.
Cheaper than the MacBook Pro, with nearly comparable performance ; Great design ; Built-in Webcam and remote control ; Can run Windows XP via Boot Camp
No ExpressCard slot or FireWire 800 ; Lacks media card reader ; Only 90 days of toll-free technical support
Apple MacBook (2.0GHz Core 2 Duo) OS X 10.4.8; Core 2 Duo 2GHz; 1GB DDR2 SDRAM 664MHz; 64MB Intel GMA 950; 120GB Toshiba MK1234GSX 5,400rpm

With the MacBook, Apple has corrected a handful of the iBook's shortcomings, hit a reasonable price point, and delivered a laptop that makes a great compromise between size and portability.
Thin and light ; Robust software package, including Mac OS X Tiger ; Magnetic lid latch and scrollable touch pad ; DVD burner ; Built-in Webcam ; Remote control ; Can run Windows XP using Apple's free Boot Camp utility
Non-native software runs slowly on Mac OS ; Lacks media card reader and some other ports ; Higher-end configurations are much more expensive than similarly configured Windows laptops ; Only 90 days of toll-free tech support

Starting at AU$1,749, Apple has released its Intel-based MacBook, which replaces its iBook series of budget laptops.
We'll also be interested to see how the first MacBooks off the manufacturing line perform. Although Apple hasn't admitted any fault with the MacBook Pros, users have come out in force complaining about processor "whining" noise, overheating above the...

THE new MacBook is strikingly slick, durable and rugged and carries a lot of Pro features.
There's something about a computer made entirely of white plastic - from glossy, rounded exterior to matte keys - that makes the new MacBook look like something you would give a child

A new design and a fantastic new graphics chip, but this latest offering is as flawed and overpriced as ever.
And that’s not all: Nvidia is also claiming it’s five times more powerful than Intel’s GMA X4500HD chip. We've heard claims like this before but this one is backed up by cold, hard figures

Is Apple good at design? Usabilty? Both or neither? Also, where has all the Firewire gone? Alex Kidman has been testing Apple's new Macbook and gives his first impressions.
I can't say that I'll personally miss Firewire due to the lack of Target Disk Mode, simply because I can count the number of times I've used on Target Disk Mode on the hands of no fingers. Where I would miss it, however, is in the ability to connect up...
Quite why Apple, a company that prides itself on the appeal that it has for the creative community, opted to strip out Firewire eludes me.
