Huawei MateBook X Pro review: A polished yet quirky laptop

Huawei's fourth laptop looks like a MacBook Pro clone, but manages to add in features that make it better for pros on the go. A traditional USB A port and a 14-inch display in a 13-inch body are both big pluses, plus excellent audio that makes it a cut...

Well-engineered USB-A port is a welcome addition ; Beautiful 14-inch display in a 13-inch frame ; Good battery life

It’s expensive in Europe and may be pricey over here ; We still don’t know if and when it’ll actually arrive in the US ; Webcam placement will annoy some people ; Potential trackpad issues that we need to examine further

Because Huawei has been so reticent to talk about US pricing and availability, it's hard to offer definitive recommendations. After all, it may be hard to find over here and may be available only in limited quantities in Europe, making it an...

MateBook X Pro

A great-looking Ultrabook – but not quite perfect. MateBook X Pro.

The MateBook X Pro is an excellent Ultrabook and a clear step forward for Huawei, but it isn’t quite perfect. Hopefully we’ll get UK pricing soon, so we can give a final verdict.

Huawei MateBook X Pro review

Odd webcam aside, the MateBook X Pro is a beautiful machine with a top-notch display.

Simple yet functional design ; Good keyboard, great touchpad ; Bright, high-contrast display ; Great speakers for the size ; Solid battery life

Weird webcam location ; MX150 performs behind similar competitors

Huawei’s new MateBook X Pro is the best laptop right now

You won't find another laptop with more bang for your buck

Immaculate materials and design ; Big, bright display with very small bezels ; Great keyboard and trackpad ; Lots of power ; Both USB-C and USB-A ports

Terrible webcam ; Average battery life ; Occasional fan noise

Simply put, if you are looking to purchase a new laptop for productivity or entertainment, the MateBook X Pro should be at the very top of your list.

Huawei MateBook X Pro

With a sleek aluminum body, ample computing power, and superb audio quality, in some ways, the Huawei MateBook X Pro is a better ultraportable than the Apple MacBook Pro that inspired it.

Superb audio quality. Comfortable, oversized touchpad. Thin, sleek design. Screen aspect ratio makes editing documents easier. USB-C and USB 3.0 ports.

Awkward webcam placement.

Bottom Line: With a sleek aluminum body, ample computing power, and superb audio quality, in some ways, the Huawei MateBook X Pro is a better ultraportable than the Apple MacBook Pro that inspired it.

Huawei MateBook X Pro review

A slimline beauty that's ready to crash Apple's party

Ultra-skinny screen bezels ; Powerful CPU/GPU combo for an ultraportable ; Loads of storage and respectable battery life

Touchpad can be finickity ; Webcam angle isn’t very flattering ; Looks a little too familiar

A seriously stylish and powerful Windows laptop with some clever ideas to get the maximum display for your dollar

Huawei MateBook X Pro review: Pro by name, pro by nature

With a stunning trim-bezel screen, heaps of power on tap, ample ports (including full-size USB), and a great-looking finish throughout, it MateBook X

Tiny screen bezel is the smallest in the business ; Bright and resolution touchscreen looks superb ; Heaps of power on tap ; Full size USB plus two USB-C for the future ; Discrete graphics (and off-board compatibility too)

Battery life won't hit double figures ; Camera placement isn't right ; Auto-brightness is overzealous ; Screen too glossy and therefore reflects ; No SD card slot

With a stunning trim-bezel screen, heaps of power on tap, ample ports (including full-size USB), and a great-looking finish throughout, it really is Pro by name and pro by nature.

Huawei MateBook X Pro initial review: A true MacBook Pro killer?

Fewer manufacturers are making laptops these days. Well, genuinely great ones anyway. Which is why it was something of a surprise to see Huawei produce

With a stunning trim-bezel screen, heaps of power on tap, ample numbers of ports, and a well-considered finish throughout, there's a lot to like about Huawei's top-spec laptop. The only standout downside, from what we suspect, is that battery life will...
