Apple TV review: Packed with potential

The future of TV is here. Well, that is the supposed promise from Apple. But with 4K competitors such as the Amazon Fire TV upping the resolution stakes and Apple sticking to its Full HD guns, can the Apple way compete? As a day one device the new...

Apps and games aplenty, Bluetooth game controller support, Siri universal search

No 4K support, no iPhone app, no Bluetooth keyboard support, app discovery could be better, Siri search doesn't work for music

As a day one device the new Apple TV feels a bit half-baked, especially in light of the strengthening competition. And as it's taken a couple of years for a refresh to appear, so we feel Apple should be a step ahead of the game.

Apple TV 2015 32GB

Since then Apple has added a bunch more apps, rolled out some minor tweaks to ease pain points, and doubled down on voice commands and tricks, another feature that helps Apple stand out. The Apple TV has improved in small steps, but they add up to a...

Apple TV delivers the most polished video experience today, with speedy reactions and a familiar yet attractive interface. It has the best remote on the market. Siri voice search is excellent, and useful voice commands add unique capabilities. The...

Apple TV costs more than similar devices like the Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Chromecast for basically the same core functions. There's no dedicated app for Amazon or any other a la carte video service beyond iTunes.

Apple TV's awesome remote and voice control make it one of the best entertainment devices, especially for anyone who already owns plenty of Apple gadgets.

Apple TV Review (2015): Living with big-screen Siri

Shouting back at the TV used to be frowned upon; now, with the fourth-generation Apple TV , Apple is positively encouraging it. The Cupertino firm's take on the future of the living room has released Siri from its iPhone and iPad prison, while a new...

My old TV had just two HDMI ports, so I had to be selective about what I left plugged in. Even now, with more inputs to fill, I still limit myself to two set-top boxes. The new Apple TV has replaced its predecessor in one of those ports, but it hasn’t...

Apple TV review (2015): A huge leap forward, unless you want 4K

The new Apple TV offers the most refined streaming interface yet, with a remote that's a step ahead of the competition. Its voice search actually works well, and even at this early stage, there are plenty of worthwhile apps and games. If you need 4K...

New interface is refined and attractive ; Siri remote is a much-needed upgrade ; Voice search works well ; Solid app and gaming support

No 4K support ; On-screen keyboard is still clumsy

So was the wait for a new Apple TV worth it? After spending a week devouring content and making it the centerpiece of my living room, I'd say yes. Its refined interface and remote, along with the best voice search implementation I've seen, puts it a...

Apple TV review: A diamond in the rough - very rough

The fourth generation Apple TV feels like the start of something big. But right now there's so much terribly wrong with Apple's latest set-top box, it's hard to know where to begin.

Access to the iTunes library ; Enormous potential ; Voice search (when it works) ; Puts AirPlay on TV

Terrible remote ; Limited app selection ; Problematic Bluetooth ; Painful service setup

Apple TV 2015 ( 64GB)

I've always owned Samsung phones and Windows computers, and tell family members to get Amazon Fire tablets . I bought a Mac in college but ended up paying a fortune for it as part of a student loan program and never bought one again. While my work...

Apple TV (4th generation) review

  (Rating Hidden)

The latest iteration of the Apple TV doesn't look widely different on the surface - it's larger than the previous version, and with a sleeker looking remote, but it's what's under the hood that counts. With the introduction of a dedicated app store and...

New Apple TV (fourth-gen, 2015) review

Here's everything we love and hate about 2015's fourth-generation Apple TV, now including the new features in March 2016's tvOS 9.2 update

App Store ; Siri integration

New onscreen keyboard is torturous to use ; limited genre-based listings on App Store

We had such high expectations for the 4G Apple TV that we have to admit to being a little disappointed with it on launch day. However, many of our main complaints seemed easy to rectify, and updates to tvOS and the Remote app have indeed resolved...

New Apple TV 2015 review

Apple has launched the new Apple TV! Here's what to expect from the fourth generation Apple TV, including design changes, new features, a new remote and an Apple TV App Store.

App Store ; Siri integration

No way to type a password using the Remote app ; new onscreen keyboard is torturous to use ; limited genre-based listings on App Store ; Bluetooth keyboards aren't supported

We had such high expectations for the Apple TV that we have to admit to being a little disappointed with it. However, our main complaints should be easily rectified. We hope that Apple will quicky rectify the issues with the Apple Remote app and the...
