Netgear EVA700 Digital Entertainer

Netgear's EVA700 is one of the burgeoning range of media streamers available on the market. These take multimedia files from your computer and output ...

Size, 4in screen, Music and video playback, User interface, Good volume levels, Competitive price

Chunky and heavy, Entertainment offering lacks features, Somewhat slow to pick up a GPS signal, Large and bulky window mount, Poor battery life, No external volume control

The Netgear EVA700 is easy to use, simple to set up and supports a good range of file formats. If there's a future firmware release that can fix its problems then Netgear will be on to a winner.

Netgear EVA700 Digital Entertainer

The first Viiv-certified media extender shows much promise for those looking to share multimedia content around the home.

Extremely easy to install and configure ; Plays files direct from USB devices ; All major audio/video formats supported ; Both wired and wireless connectivity ; WEP and WPA wireless security supported ; Intel Viiv-certified

No HDMI connector ; Lacks an LCD display for status and file information ; User interface could be improved

The EVA700 offers everything we love about Zensonic's Z500 digital media extender -- such as extensive format support and connectivity options -- and also manages to rectify many of its flaws such as the lack of WPA security and unintuitive...

Don't Buy it

see Cons

Wireless range is terrible. User Interface is terrible. The provided softwarer (Windos Media Centre) doesn't talk to it. Free TVersity will work as a workaround though ; DOES NOT PLAY XVid

"Not as promised"

Got EVA700 for XMAS - I love it.

Streams SD video beautifully. No issues with video or sound quality

Setup is a bit tricky. Loses connection to the wireless router when not in use - annoying to have to enter WEP codes etc to get it working again. User interface is a bit clunky

"Looks great! But Apple DRM makes me grumpy"

Looks great! But Apple DRM makes me grumpy

Looks like a great device, and if Microsoft doesn't enable the Xbox360 to use a similar video functionality via USB and non-MCE windows PCs, I just might pick up one of these things

Apple's DRM has cost them my regular custom from the online store. I'd rather spend a few extra dollars, have the physical CD and rip/play/share the content through my devices as I chose. Sorry to rant
