Review: Vizio Co-Star

After being unceremoniously abandoned by key hardware partner Logitech last fall, the Google TV platform seems to have found a worthy replacement in Vizio.

Handles 1080p streams, and several video formats for local files. Button-filled remote control is like a Swiss Army knife of input. Straightforward setup. Chrome browser surprisingly doesn’t want to make you gouge your eyes out in frustration

Limited streaming options — updates are expected, but for now, no Hulu. And no ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, or Comedy Central through the browser. Vizio’s UI doesn’t take advantage of the big screen, and app names are awkwardly truncated in the main menu. No...

Vizio Co-Star

The least expensive Google TV ; OnLive ; App Tray menu overlay

No built-in IR emitter ; Awkward remote

At $99, the Co-Star is the least expensive way to get the Google TV experience, but the price doesn't come without trade-offs.

Vizio Co-Star review

You may be surprised to find that Google TV is still kicking around. That's understandable, given poor reviews , sluggish sales, and last year's problems with Logitech , one of its original hardware partners. Google itself is even starting to pretend...

The Vizio Co-Star is the smallest Google TV box on the market and only costs $100. It comes with a double-sided remote, with a touch pad on the front and a full keyboard on the back.

The Google TV software continues to disappoint. There aren't dedicated apps for major streaming services like Amazon Instant, Hulu Plus, and MLB.TV, nor is Google's own movie rental service supported. Major content providers like ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox,...

The Vizio Co-Star is an affordable way of getting the Google TV experience, but the software remains underwhelming and hampered by restrictions.

Vizio Co-Star review

Will anyone ever get Google TV right?...

If you've bought one of these and it works, awesome. I hope you're having a blast with it. If you've bought one and it's not working very well, I hope Vizio can fix you up. Most importantly, if you haven't bought one of these, keep your hundred bucks.

Vizio Co-Star: The Best of the Bad Google TV Boxes

Google TV is still confused, confusing, and not a very helpful thing to buy into your life. So far, the TV gadgets using it have been mediocre. Vizio's stab at Google TV, the Co-Star, is the best box yet—but will anyone care?

Falling Stars

I was one of the early adopters. It doesn't pay to be the first kid on the block. It was clunky, quirky, and unrefined. I bought this thing Oct 1st of 2012. It died Dec 1st 2013. 1 year 2 months old. I argued with two customer service reps and their...

no led on unit or remote no buttons on unit clunky, quirky turns into a brick two months after the warranty expires.

A couple frustrations but really good overall

I have an Apple TV second generation, a Playstation 3 and two web-enabled tv's and the Co Star is clearly the most versatile of them all with so many available apps. If the major networks stopped blocking access to their sites, I think this unit would...

Improves with every Google TV update. Android based. Google Play Store. Keyboard on the flipside of the remote and touch pad. Hooks up between your cable box and tv, it overlays your tv and interacts with the cable box. Games incl. Zynga apps

No on/off indicator light. 10 secs to start up. Major channels block Google TV from getting to content. AMC has worked for me, though. The CW looked like it was going to work but video locked up over and over

The Co-star gets a A.

The Co-star lived up to everything it promised. I have used it now for over 6 months and to be able to access the web on my TV is spectacular. All the other functions are icing on the cake work well. The seamless way it works with my TV is another...

Seamlessly connects No Switching modes on TV to use Co-star! One push of button and the co-star is on. Works perfect for surfing the web. No longer need to turn on a computer to do a quick search. The YouTube App is one of the best formats Ive seen.

The Co-Star could use more Apps.

I had a previous Google TV (Logitech) and was happier with that Unit. I didnt like how the co-star worked. I went to return it and was advised that I had to pay a 10% restocking fee. I will never buy another Vizio Product again. This was a product that...
